See the Great Barrier Reef change after dark with the PADI Night Diver specialty in Cairns, where overnight liveaboard trips put you over the reef as the day shift gives way to the night shift. Across the required night dives you learn to use lights, navigate in the dark and identify nocturnal creatures such as crustaceans, hunting reef sharks and cuttlefish. It is a different way to experience familiar sites like Flynn and Milln Reef.
The PADI Night Diver specialty requires three night dives and can credit one dive toward the Advanced Open Water Night adventure dive. Liveaboards based out of Cairns work well because you are already moored over the reef when darkness falls.
