Course overview

The PADI Rescue Diver course on the sheltered west coast of Mauritius makes you a calmer, more capable diver. Through scenarios in the Flic-en-Flac lagoon and at calm reef sites, you learn to anticipate problems, manage stress and handle diver emergencies from self-rescue to unresponsive-diver recovery. Many divers rate it the most rewarding course in the PADI system, and it is the gateway to professional training.

What you’ll learn

• Recognise and manage diver stress before it becomes an emergency
• Perform self-rescue and tired-diver tows
• Respond to panicked divers at the surface and underwater
• Search for and surface an unresponsive diver
• Provide in-water rescue breathing and exit techniques
• Plan and execute emergency-management scenarios

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12 (Junior Rescue Diver) or 15 for Rescue Diver
• PADI Adventure Diver or Advanced Open Water (or qualifying certification)
• Emergency First Response primary and secondary care within 24 months
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Rescue theory

   Knowledge development, exam and an introduction to self-rescue skills.
2. Day2
   Rescue exercises

   Work through the ten rescue skills in the lagoon and at a sheltered reef.
3. Day3
   Scenarios and certification

   Complete the two open-water rescue scenarios, including unresponsive-diver recovery, then certify.
