Sharm El Sheikh is one of the world's great wreck-diving bases, and the PADI Wreck Diver specialty teaches you to explore them safely. Training centres on classic Red Sea wrecks, above all the WWII SS Thistlegorm at around 30m, with its cargo of trucks, motorcycles and munitions. You learn survey, mapping and safe non-penetration techniques across four dives.
PADI teaches wreck diving through eLearning and focuses on non-penetration techniques at this level, issuing a PADI Wreck Diver card. The first dive can credit from Advanced Open Water.
The Red Sea's flagship wreck, the WWII-era SS Thistlegorm, sits at around 30m and is known for its preserved wartime cargo, while shallower wrecks and reef-edge structures around Sharm suit early wreck training. Visibility of 20-30m makes orientation and mapping straightforward.
