The SSI Scuba Diver (Basic Diver) course at Sipadan is a stepping-stone certification for beginners who want more than a one-off try dive, taught on the calm reefs off Mabul Island. You learn core scuba skills and complete open-water training dives under instructor supervision, earning a recognised certification that lets you dive with a professional to shallow recreational depths. It is a good first qualification that can later be upgraded to full Open Water Diver.
SSI Scuba Diver (Basic Diver) is a recognised entry-level certification that lets you dive under the direct supervision of an SSI professional to shallow depths. It can be upgraded to the full SSI Open Water Diver certification by completing the remaining training.
Training uses the sheltered, shallow house reef off Mabul Island, a calm and turtle-rich site where the gentle April-to-October conditions suit first-time divers building basic skills.
