Under two centimetres. Lives its entire adult life on one sea fan, and you'll need a guide to find them.
Pygmy seahorses are among the smallest vertebrates on Earth, under 2.7 cm fully grown, with tubercles on their bodies that perfectly match the polyp pattern of their host sea fan. Bargibanti pygmies live on Muricella sea fans; Denise pygmies on other gorgonians; Pontohi pygmies on algae.
Each individual is host-specific, they spend their entire adult life on a single fan, often the same one for months or years. The pair-bond is permanent; mating dances happen at dawn every day for the bonded pair.
Komodo, Raja Ampat, Lembeh, Anilao and Bali (Tulamben) are the global hotspots. You won't find them yourself, local guides know individual sea fans hosting individual seahorses and lead you straight there. Photography requires steady buoyancy and a focused diopter macro setup.
