The SSI Basic Diver course gives you a real taste of certified diving on Mauritius's sheltered west coast. Over two days from Flic-en-Flac you learn core scuba skills in the calm lagoon and make supervised open-water dives to around 12 metres on shallow reefs full of clownfish and parrotfish. It is a useful stepping stone that credits toward the full SSI Open Water Diver certification.
SSI Basic Diver certifies you to dive to a shallow limit under professional supervision and credits directly toward the full SSI Open Water Diver course. The certification is held digitally in the SSI app.
Training uses the sheltered Flic-en-Flac lagoon for skills and shallow nearby reefs for open-water dives, where calm 23-28C water and gentle conditions, best November to April, suit first-time divers.
